"HEY," THE VOICE SAID and the female lifted her head up rather suddenly, her eyes widening at the noise. She hadn't heard anyone approach (perhaps that was because she was too absorbed with eating), and so the prospect of another horse talking to her seemed puzzling. Upon spotting the stallion, however, Circe realized that it was he who had spoken and began a physical inspection of him.
"I'M CAPRICORN."
Well, that was a curious name for an equally strange beast. The mare had to admit that he resembled almost every other equine she had ever laid eyes on whilst stuck out in the barren plains (which was most unlike herself; she had yet to see another horse of her stature and build). Nostrils flaring slightly as his scent was thrown towards her by a smooth wind from the East, the Thoroughbred was reasonably pleased with what she saw.
He didn't seem to brutish in build, yet neither did he appear to be scraggly, like a horse experiencing the woes of adolescence. Blinking at this Capricorn fellow, Circe exhaled with a snort and allowed her tail to swish away the flies that continued to bother and irritate her. She was tempted to turn around and snap at them in order to see if that made them leave her alone, but refrained, only because she saw that as rude and she did have manners, after all.
"CIRCE," the Thoroughbred responded simply, shifting her legs slightly and tossing her head into the air as a swarm of flies attacked her face. She loathed the wilderness for its insects; although she would have still suffered the flies at Firebrand, at least they would have been few and far between, unlike this place. "PLEASURE TO MEET YOU," the mare extended after a moment's pause, wondering if she'd seemed incredibly rude.
She didn't like rudeness. True, she could act as if she had no manners, but that was only if the occasion called for it, and at the moment, the stallion had been rather civil to her, so she'd returned his hospitality. There was a pregnant pause as the bay creature eyed her surroundings and then returned her attention to Capricorn, having noticed that there weren't any other horses of his breed that matched him in height (or, if they were, they weren't present at that moment in time.
"WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE, CAPRICORN?" It was always best to extend the conversation, or so Circe had been taught, and so she did, her gaze fixated on the beast in front of her. Hopefully he had an interesting story to tell that was relatively human-free, unlike her own history, if it could be called that.
