Body moved slowly towards my home. I had been racing with two wonderful equines, and both had given my soul the refreshment it needed. Red chestnut coat was darkening from sweat, just like all other horses in these lands. The drought was taking a toll on everyone, and of course, I was to be blamed. I didn’t mind, for it was my fault, or from my point of view, my responsibility. But mind was not on that as I traveled slowly. Nah, I was lost completely in my mind, letting my physical being go on auto-pilot. Thoughts were now bent around the subject of illusions.
Yes, the illusions of life. It was complicated, but something that I loved to think about. So many equines think of themselves completely different, and yet, they were one in the same. All the alliances, the Darks and the Lights and all the rest, lived as if separate, but when it came down to it, they are the same, only divided by their hate and anger towards each other. A sigh escaped me. Hate leads to nothing good. I knew that blood would soon be spilt over the land, and the hated would only grow deeper. A never ending cycle, which only the truly wisest understand.
Then, the illusion of death. Many think once the dead are gone, they’re gone. But how can one completely leave the earth when they are still bound to it by the one who still holds their memories. Someone is only truly dead when not one soul on the earth thinks about them, or wonders about them. Life is everywhere, including in the dead. Life and death is an illusion…
Thoughts were instantly interrupted by the sound of another equine. Auto-pilot switches off, and I am on guard, ears pricked and dial raised high. My body had already entered my home, and surprise hits me. I must have been thinking longer than I thought. Towering ahead of me was the beautiful peak I called home. Raised grandly, it stood watching over all life forms in the lands of Avatrai. A small smile formed on my mug. It was good to be home. Orbs lowered a bit from the towering heights of the mountain to its base. Three equines stood right at the bottom, waiting expectantly for someone. I guessed that this someone was me. Quietly, limbs carried me a bit closer, wanting to get a better look. All of their scents were different, yet in some way equal. Lights. Studying all of them carefully, I picked out who they were. The tall stag was Stradivarius, the second in command to the Light Alliance. And the two mares standing on either side of him were Emielle and Amira. You had to be dull to not know what they were here for. All highly respected in the herds, I knew that they had come to ask about the drought.
All their ears pricked at the sound coming from the mountain. Even I did, wondering what it was. But from living on this land for a very long time, ears instantly knew that it was the sound of a rock falling gently, not the sound of hooves. The trio, however, did not know that, and all were waiting excitedly for my presence to appear from the mountain. I tried not to laugh. All they had to do was turn around to see that they were looking in the completely wrong direction. Once again, I walked very carefully closer, until I was but a few yards away from them. Head and tail head proudly, I spoke in a powerful but welcoming voice.
“Sound is but one of many illusions.”
